„Namu Amida Butsu“ ist das zentrale Gebet im japanischen „Reines-Land-Buddhismus“. Amida ist die japanische Form des Buddhas Amithaba.
„Namu Amida Butsu“ ist der Ausdruck der Hingabe und der Dankbarkeit, das „Reine Land“ betreten zu können. Ob jetzt schon oder erst wenn man gestorben ist, ist nicht ganz klar. Soll aber schön sein dort. Das Mantra bedeutet, sich Amida Buddha, dem Buddha des unendlichen Lichts und Lebens, anzuvertrauen.
